Since the 2012 release of their breakthrough EP, “In the Wake of Dreaming”, Marina City has rapidly become one of the most elite bands of the Chicago music scene. Their debut sold out show at the House of Blues and second place title at Columbia College’s Biggest Mouth landed them spotlights on many local radio stations and papers. They’ve headlined three tours across the country, headlined their own stage at Rockapalooza in Jackson, MI, Cosmic Invasion in Lexington, KY, played unofficial South By Southwest showcases with Amanda Palmer, and have been an opening act for Go Radio, Cartel, Paradise Fears, State Champs, Real Friends, Lucky Boys Confusion and more.
Marina City is described as Pop Rock, but the fusion of catchy melodies and heavy instrumentals create their aggressive edge. Their unforgettable live show is one of their best aspects. They command the crowd and their stage presence is explosive.
Though Marina City’s music can be all pervading, their personalities are certainly charismatic. The band possesses a great sense of humor and is known for creating lighthearted, and hilarious promotional videos. The sextet has become a family, with a common thread of passion and dedication. Marina City’s intentions for the listener include individual strength, determination, and the power of big dreams.
This sextet includes Ryan Argast (lead vocals), Brian Johnson (vocals/guitar), Matt Gaudiano (vocals/keys), Eric Somers-Urrea (percussion), and Aaron Heiy (bass).
